We are committed to ushering in a new era of “GRI 2.0”

Greetings. I am Sungcheon Kang,
the 15th President of the Gyeonggi Research Institute.
The Gyeonggi Research Institute (GRI) is a policy think tank dedicated to enhancing the competitiveness and quality of life in Gyeonggi Province and its municipalities.
Since its established, GRI has continuously analyzed existing policies and proposed innovative and effective alternatives across diverse domains-including the economy, society, administration, urban development, transportation, and international affairs-all of which directly affect the lives of province’s residents.
Today, Korea is facing a set of profound and multifaceted challenges, including lingering effect from the tariff war initiated during the Trump administration, a declining of competitiveness in core industries such as automobiles and semiconductors, and insufficient advancement in core sectors poised to drive future economic growth, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and biotechnology.
Socially, the country is grappling with the world’s fastest declining birthrate and rapidly aging population, and deepening social polarization and conflict.
In this context, the role of Gyeonggi Province in paving the way for a sustainable future for Korea has become more crucial than ever.
In light of these challenges, the Gyeonggi Research Institute, as the leading think tank of Gyeonggi Province, will take a pivotal role in guiding sustainable growth and developing policy solutions.
